2015 Library Savings

Back in my baby days of blogging, I read this fantastic and inspiring post by Karen @ Sassy Monkey Reads where she totaled up her library savings and got to $1300! I felt inspired to do the same, and have done so each year since.

In 2015 …

I saved $480.77 by using the public library!

Just like last year, I tracked each book and audio book in my book spreadsheet and input the Kindle/Audible price I would have paid if I’d purchased the book from Amazon.

Doing it as I go this year, instead of all at once at the end of the year, has been really, really rewarding. One of my goals for 2014 was to continue paying off my debts from student loans and the credit card, and limiting my bookish spending was a good way to get started. Seeing that library savings number go up and up kept me motivated to get books from there, even if I liked the series already, if they were available.

This was the first year that my library savings were HIGHER than the amount I spent on books!

I have been so excited to share that with you guys, because I’m so PROUD OF MYSELF! YAY LIBRARIES!

As with last year, I have some boring adult finance goals, mostly in the “keep chipping away at all your undergraduate debt” category. And in news that will shock literally no one, I will continue decluttering until I achieve that mythical balance.

Do you have an awesome library? Do you use it?

If you don’t, obviously I can’t recommend it enough. It’s saved me at least a couple thousand dollars over the last 6 years.
